Sherrie Miday is the only Arab American running for office in the state of Ohio in 2016.

A lawyer since 2001, she is campaigning to become a judge on the county’s Common Pleas Court. Born in Cleveland to Egyptian parents, Sherrie is Christian and the daughter of a Coptic Orthodox Church priest. She says, “Unless we unify, unless we support candidates that represent our heritage and our culture, we don’t have a voice.” If she wins, Sherrie will make history as the first Egyptian American ever elected to office in the United States.

America By The Numbers with Maria Hinojosa (ABTN) will examine candidates like Sherrie whose power and influence are growing in a 2016 election special titled “The New Deciders.” The one-hour program will air on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 on PBS and local public TV stations (check local listings).
