Get To Know #TheNewDeciders: Maria Lozano

By August 9, 2016 The New Deciders No Comments

Born in Mexico, Maria Lozano is 19 years old. She has lived in the United States since the age of one.

Lozano got DREAMER status in 2012 thanks to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA. As an Evangelical Christian she is active in protests for immigration reform and registering Evangelicals to vote. She says although she is undocumented and cannot vote herself, she is encouraging others to vote on her behalf: “I definitely believe that even if I don’t have the right to vote, others are standing in the gap for me. I still may not have papers, but now I feel visible, I feel empowered.”

America By The Numbers with Maria Hinojosa (ABTN) will examine engaged members of the community like Maria whose power and influence are growing in a 2016 election special titled “The New Deciders.” The one-hour program will air on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 on PBS and local public TV stations (check local listings).
