Ling Ling Chang is a Taiwanese American who is running as a Republican for State Senate in California’s District 29.
When Chang was growing up in the 19080s in the town of Diamond Bar, east of Los Angeles, the town was 90% white. But when she became its mayor in 2011, the population was over 50% Asian. Chang says, “I don’t look like the typical Republican and I think that’s a good thing. Because I want people to know that Republicans are in fact very diverse and very inclusive.”
