Holden Cession got involved with Black Lives Matter (BLM) in 2014, following the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
Holden is working as a community activist in Greensboro to move BLM from protest to political change: “Black Lives Matter as a movement is being more diligent about elevating women and queer and trans people and gender-nonconforming people in the movement. For me to be alive at this moment in time, in the South as a black trans person, I think is a very powerful thing.”
America By The Numbers with Maria Hinojosa (ABTN) will examine engaged voters like Holden whose power and influence are growing in a 2016 election special titled “The New Deciders.” The one-hour program will air on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 on PBS and local public TV stations (check local listings).
